Extreme Precision
Nano Micromachining
The Pegasus sculpture at right was micromachined from a particle of diamond dust using a focused ion beam (FIB) microscope... just an example of one of the powerful technologies employed every day at Norsam Technologies in serving its customers. The sculpture is approximately two microns in height; one micron is one-thousanth of a millimeter, and a typical human hair would be some 80 microns in thickness while a human red blood cell is about ten microns in diameter. The mythological flying horse's nostril is approximately 800 carbon atoms across... this is the sort of scale at which Norsam's projects are executed.
Norsam combines an array of highly specialized techniques, ranging from FIB to rapid pulse laser and chemical etch processes in providing products and services for its customers. A diverse variety of products are fabricated with the technologies at Norsam's disposal, including extremely high-precision apertures for electron and ion beam optics (both strips and discs), ranging from submicron to millimeter diameters; submicron diamond probes of specialized geometries for profilometry and other applications; extremely sharp and resilient diamond blades (used by NASA to extract comet particles returned to Earth by the Stardust Mission-- see Press Release); and customized diamond microtooling. In addition, Norsam provides the finest gemstone marking methods available anywhere.
The company provides HD-ROSETTA archival preservation services by providing analog and digital data as a microfilm replacement on metal discs/plates. Analog densities can be 20x like microfilm/microfiche, or high density; 1,000 to 100,000 on a two inch disc. HD-ROSETTA-derived metal CD's and DVD's are also available.
